Is 59:1 See, the Lord’s hand is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear. Is 59:2 Rather, your iniquities have been barriers between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.
Our sin separates us from God; God hides His face from us. What are we to do?
1 Jn 1:9 If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
This is also why Jesus teaches us to make confession a part of our prayers.
Lk 11:2 He said to them, “When you pray, say: Father, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Lk 11:3 Give us each day our daily bread. Lk 11:4 And forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive everyone indebted to us. And do not bring us to the time of trial.” Since we sin daily, we need to confess daily.
If you were to do me serious harm and then come to ask of me a favor, would we not have to address the issue of the harm first. And so it is with God; He cannot grant us the desires of our heart until the sin issue is settled. God wants to grant us all of His blessings, but He cannot and will not violate His holiness by doing so.
