Satan being over the throne of God in his original design knew the requirements of God’s Holiness. But, Satan knew that Holiness had limitations…it could not abide sin. Knowing this, it could be seen how and why Satan thought that he could be successful rebelling against God. Have you not thought about this? Why Satan knowing the power of God would even think that he could be successful?
Satan knew only the limitation of Holiness and not the full power of God. After Satan sinned, he and his fallen Angels had made a onetime choice and the Bible tells us that there was no salvation plan for Angels.
Satan tried the very same with Adam and was again successful. Bringing death and decay to not only man but the whole universe. Satan again thought that he had been successful and that there would be no way that man could get back to God.
Now all would die in their sins and be under slavery and his rule forever…including the whole fallen universe. He now had his followers and would be like God and set upon the Holy Mountain (Jerusalem). The requirements of Holiness would prevent sin from ever entering Heaven…his followers would now outnumber God’s Holy Ones. He must have thought that he had won.
Satan knew many things for the Bible tells us that when God made him he sealed up the sum of wisdom and beauty, but Satan is not all knowing. Satan never thought that God would humble Himself and come as a servant in the form of a man, Jesus Christ, and by death with His own blood pay the price upon the Cross for the atonement of man’s sins. Thus thwarting Satan’s plan; freeing captives and defeating death. This is the Good News of the Gospel.
