I want to ask you, what do you know about Hell, the Lake of Fire, and the Outer Darkness? I am sure you know there is no joy and no love. But, let me give you some of the verses and then a blow by blow account. If you read this and it unsettles you, you must remember God wants you to be unsettled. This gloom and doom is not a pleasant place.
Re 20:14 Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. Re 20:15 And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
Mt 25:30 And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
Lake of Fire:
Re 20:10 and the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.
Re 20:15 And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
Today, by common grace, the full impact of evil is restrained by the work of the Holy Spirit.
2 Th 2:7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work. Only he who now restrains it will do so until he is out of the way.
At judgment, God in His grace and mercy will separate evil from holy, and evil will go where evil will have no bounds. The Bible mentions a time when there was evil continually on Earth. At that time, God chose to destroy all mankind in a flood except for eight.
Ge 6:5 The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
You and I know there is a lot of evil in the world today, but it is not as bad as it was in the time of Noah, where every thought in every person was continually evil. In Hell, the Outer Darkness, and the Lake of Fire, not a single remnant of love will exist. It will be evil continually . . . no one will have a friend. Today we know the love of many—God, family, friends, associates, and even strangers.
The true description of Hell, the Lake of Fire, and the Outer Darkness is that love will not exist. The essence of faith is that, by free will, each person must choose the love of God. God said if you do not choose Him, then you will have the evil you did choose. This is why the Outer Darkness has the description of weeping and the gnashing of teeth. When everyone who enters realizes the love they knew on Earth, which was only a foretaste of heavenly love, is gone forever . . . what else could they do but weep forever? Weeping in such deep sadness and agony over such loss, they will gnash their teeth forever. This is why all of Heaven rejoices over the return of one lost sheep.
