The hardest thing about speaking the Gospel is that I meet too many good people. Good people perceive that they are okay. They have no need of a savior. What would they need to be saved from? One person told me that she was a good person, so good that all of her friends told her she should have been a nun. Can you imagine; has anyone ever read that God’s standard was to be as good as a nun?
This woman had deluded herself into thinking that she was able to judge her own conduct by her own conscience, and furthermore her standard was to be as good as a nun. God’s standard is not our conscience. Our conscience is short on memory and long on forgiveness. God is long on patience and short on sin. No sin can enter Heaven and no good can get you in…for good is not good enough.
The Apostle Paul tells us in Romans that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. All are in need of forgiveness. We enter Heaven on the basis of sinlessness not goodness.
