Christians often ask what I can do to improve my life in general and my walk with the Lord in particular. Looking at the Bible there are number of things we can do; be a good witness, speak the Gospel, teach, tithe, help others, love our neighbor and etc. These are all good things and each of these is contributing to God’s Kingdom. In the unfolding of God’s plan in the Bible, we learn that there are two things that we can do to be the most effective.
The best way to discern the two is to look at the work of Satan. If Satan hates it and if Satan works the hardest at preventing it, we can be sure that this is what works best.
When we look at God’s people in the Bible what are they doing? Also what does God spend a lot of time on telling us to do?
Praying and reading the Bible are the two most effective tools and weapons in the Kingdom. The Bible has many places where we are extolled to love and obey God’s word…all wisdom comes from His word. Also praying without ceasing is seen throughout Bible. Even Jesus had to use prayer to achieve His work on behalf of God.
It is the working of Satan to keep us from reading the Bible, because without reading the Bible we lose all communication with God…this is exactly what Satan wants. People have an endless number of excuses for not reading the Bible…I fall asleep when I read, I can’t understand it, I do not have enough time, I am already saved, and etc. This is not just some people this is most people…believers and unbelievers. Satan does all he can to influence us not to read the Bible and he is succeeding.
Praying, I have not met anyone that did not think that they should pray more. It is almost universal for one Christian to declare to another the moment they meet that they need to pray more.
God has made it clear that He wants us to pray and read the Bible, but they are the two things that we have the most trouble doing. If we look at what Satan hates most and what we find the hardest top do, we will identify the two most effective tools and weapons for our walk with God...reading the Bible and praying.
