The God of the Bible tells us that we are to believe every word of the Bible. When you see someone in the Bible reading the Bible, they take the Bible as literally true. Yet only 3 in 10 say they take the Bible literally.
Gallup has done a poll through the decades on this question and Jeffrey M. Jones of Gallup writes of the results:
“Three in 10 Americans interpret the Bible literally, saying it is the actual word of God. That is similar to what Gallup has measured over the last two decades, but down from the 1970s and 1980s.
A 49% plurality of Americans say the Bible is the inspired word of God but that it should not be taken literally, consistently the most common view in Gallup's nearly 40-year history of this question.
Another 17% consider the Bible an ancient book of stories recorded by man.”
It is interesting that 3 out of 10 take the Bible literally, and 7 out of 10 children walk away from their faith after leaving home. I would think that the 3 out of 10 that did not walk away from their faith after leaving home most likely came from the homes that literally believed the word of God. No one that believes the truth walks away from the truth…truth is attractive.
