The very first Evangelists were the least, the last, and the lost.
Who were the least, the last, and the lost? [Shepherds out in the field]
Lk 2:8 And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. Lk 2:9 And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear.
What did the shepherds do? [They made known the saying]
Lk 2:16 And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. Lk 2:17 And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child. Lk 2:18 And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. Lk 2:19 But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart.
What did they make known? [The good news]
Lk 2:10 And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Lk 2:11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
Who was the good news to? [Those whom He is pleased]
Lk 2:13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, Lk 2:14 “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”
Who was to receive the good news? [First in prophecy (Isa 61.1): the poor, the brokenhearted, and the captives of this world, and then in fact (Mt 11.5) with miracles]
Is 61:1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
Mt 11:5 the blind receive their sight and the lame walk, lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them.
What was the good news? [The word of the Lord, the Bible]
1 Pe 1:25 but the word of the Lord remains forever.” And this word is the good news that was preached to you.
