Here are two verses speaking about building materials. In the first set of verses in Corinthians, Paul is talking about building on the foundation that is Jesus and our work in the Church of Christ. In the verses in Exodus, Moses is talking about building the Tabernacle in the wilderness. The same materials are used, but more importantly the builders of the Tabernacle were filled by God with the Holy Spirit in order to be able to do the work. The same is true in building upon the foundation of Christ that Paul laid. We are also filled with the Holy Spirit in order to be able to do this work.
We must remember that in the Old Testament the Holy Spirit did not indwell each person. King Saul was given the Spirit and then it was taken from him when he failed. King David prayed that it not be taken from him when he failed. The Jews in Jerusalem were in amazement that the Spirit fell on all of the believers at Pentecost. Peter and Paul came to Jerusalem to testify that God had given this same Holy Spirit to Gentiles.
1Cor3.10According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it. 11 For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw— 13 each one’s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. 14 If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. 15 If anyone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.
Ex31.1 The Lord said to Moses, 2 “See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, 3 and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with ability and intelligence, with knowledge and all craftsmanship, 4 to devise artistic designs, to work in gold, silver, and bronze, 5 in cutting stones for setting, and in carving wood, to work in every craft.
