The Courage of Daniel

In the early years of youth, children claim the faith of their parents. Once these same children enter their pre-teens and teens they have to claim their faith in Jesus Christ for themselves, and choose to willingly follow Him. During this period of faith building, they are trying to find their place among their peers, discover the world, as well as seeing great changes in their own bodies. Satan is most active at this time in their lives and protective prayer is so important…Children pray, parents pray, teachers pray.

One of the most important things to remember is that almost every adult addiction is started in the pre-teen and teen years. Almost no one takes up smoking, drugs, promiscuousness, and other destructive behaviors after the age of twenty.

The Bible clearly predicts this: 2Peter2.2 And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed. Following our own sensuality means doing what we want for our own pleasure. Christians are actually blaspheming the way of truth when they act like unbelievers. The world looks at Christian behavior and reviles God.

This is why Daniel was called “greatly loved” Dan9.23 At the beginning of your pleas for mercy a word went out, and I have come to tell it to you, for you are greatly loved. Daniel lived in a pagan society and was a great witness; God could rely on Daniel’s courage and loved him greatly…remember Daniel in the lion’s den?

Young believers are not walking away because they are losing the knowledge of God. It is precisely because they do have the knowledge of His requirements. It is hard to participate in the sensualities of the world with an open Bible.

The courage of Daniel was mightier than the strength of Samson.
