Notice how the sin in the Garden of Eden came about; desires of the flesh and eyes, and pride.
Ge 3:6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise…
The very same three are spoken of in the New Testament.
1 Jn 2:16 For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life…
James the brother of Jesus tells us how this happens. The temptation to eat of the forbidden tree was Adam and Eve’s own desire. That desire gave birth to sin and the sin brought forth death…just as it still does today.
Jas 1:14 But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Jas 1:15 Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.
This next verse tells us what Adam and Eve should have done, and it still works today.
2 Co 10:5 We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ…
Can we do it? The Bible says that we can…how, submit to God.
1 Co 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
Jas 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
