“Peace with God” is life for the future in eternity and “the peace of God” is peace for today. The “peace with God” is hindered by pride. Ps 10:4 In the pride of his face the wicked does not seek him; all his thoughts are, “There is no God.” “The peace of God” is hindered by the flesh and the mind. Ro 8:5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. Ro 8:6 For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. Ro 8:7 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. Ro 8:8 Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
Paul knew that it was a struggle to live a life free of sin for he stated:
Ro 7:15 For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. Ro 7:16 Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with the law, that it is good.
Ro 7:18 For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out.
Ro 7:19 For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing.
Paul tells us how to strive with the sin in our lives; 2 Co 10:5b take every thought captive to obey Christ…
So that we would not be discouraged Paul also told us that there is now no condemnation for those that are in Christ. Ro 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
