As an evangelist, I look around in this time of political and social turmoil and think of the word “noise”. When I turn to the Bible to see how God uses the word ‘noise”, I find some interesting insight. The word is related to not only a tone of sound but to destruction, clamor, and tumult.

This is how we see the political world today. Politics are politics of destruction that sows tumult. In our society and culture there is so much misinformation vying for the minds of individuals to reject the truths of God, and it has led to a society and family that is becoming increasingly broken and violent. The statistics demonstrate this and the unbelieving world has no answers.

Learned discourse is no longer the norm. Colleges now have speech codes where they were once bastions of free speech. The codes are not to improve conduct of speech or promote discourse, but to control the opposing Christian view. In every case, the opposing view is confronted with noise and not an open exchange of ideas. Only one view is tolerated; all other views are deemed too valueless to even allow discussion.

It is noise that the atheist and evolutionist use to demean in order to silence. It reminds me of the story of a great Christian that lived in London who was challenged to a debate by an equally famous atheist of the time. The Christian after receiving the challenge agreed to all of the atheist’s terms and only added one of his own.

The Christian stated that he would agree to the debate if the atheist would bring 100 people who could state that their lives were changed for the better due to their conversion to atheism. He would also bring 100 Christians that could testify to their changed lives. In fact, the Christian stated that if the atheist could only bring 50 he would go forward, he then changed that to 20, and would even accept the debate if the atheist could bring just one…the atheists on receiving his reply canceled the debate.

Unbelief is just noise, destruction, and tumult…no changed lives; no hospitals have ever been started by atheist, no great institutions of learning, and no large and enduring charitable organizations. Just noise, without love and without human caring; only loud unbelief shouting that there is nothing, and destruction and tumult continue; is this a belief system that has accomplished anything other than noise?
