Jesus claimed to be God. Many times in the Bible He is performing miracles specifically to demonstrate to the Jewish people His Deity. This leaves us with a choice: He was God, He was a lunatic, or He was a liar.
The unbelieving world does not want us to see these three as our choice. The unbelieving world wants us to see our choice as Jesus was God, or He was just a good man. This is why you see so many people saying that they believe that He was a good man. Here is the list of major religions that proclaim that Jesus was just a good man: Hindus, Buddhist, Islamist, Mormons, Jehovah Witness, and about every other religion with some type of following. Why is this?
To see the choice clearly reveals a truth that the unbelieving world would like you to miss.
“Here is a quote by C. S. Lewis; I’m trying here to prevent anyone from saying the really silly thing that people often say about Him: “I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept His claim to be God.” That’s the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said wouldn’t be a great moral teacher. He’d either be a lunatic—on a level with the man who says he’s a poached egg—or else he’d be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But don’t let us come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He hasn’t left that open to us. He didn’t intend to.” C. S. Lewis, The Case for Christianity (New York, NY: Macmillan)
Did Jesus think He was God and deluded Himself and therefore He was a lunatic?
Jesus is never depicted in the Bible as being out of control of His senses and our Western civilization is built upon His teachings of right and wrong.
Did Jesus knowingly tell a lie about being God and was therefore He was a liar?
Would He have suffered brutal torture for what He knew to be a lie…especially when we see in the Bible that Pontius Pilate actually wanted to let Him go?
This leaves us with the common sense understanding that Jesus is God. Truth revealed and recognized is not enough…it must be accepted. Many times truth is revealed and recognized, but rejected for any number of reasons. The Bible tells us that Jesus is the only way: John14.5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. We must make a choice.
