The verses in Hosea demonstrate God expects and does not excuse a lack of knowledge.
God pronounces judgment:
Ho 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.
This is a heavy verse and God speaks of the fate of children. God said; “I also will forget your children”. Let’s look at what it says.
People are destroyed…why?
Lack of knowledge
Rejection of knowledge
Forgetting or ignoring God’s requirements
God’s judgment for this failure:
Rejection as a leader
Forgetting your children
God requires “faithfulness, steadfast love, and knowledge of God in the land”. Christianity must understand worship is weak, love is meek, and faithfulness is cheap without the full measure and maturity of Biblical knowledge. Salvation is simple, but salvation is only the first step. God also requires the full measure of maturity, leaving the elementary knowledge of your salvation going on to a mature faith and knowledge in Jesus Christ.
Heb 6:1 Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God…
Eph 4:13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ…
Why did Paul want you to grow into a full measure of maturity in faith and knowledge? Paul knew this was the protection you and your Christian children would need to survive the deception of evil in this world.
Eph 4:14 so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.
