A careful look into this parable will demonstrate that there is a chiastic structure that can help reveal the central message.
The Parable of the Seed Growing
Mark4.26 And he said, “The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground.
27 He sleeps and rises night and day, and the seed sprouts and grows; he knows not how.
28 The earth produces by itself,
first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear.
29 But when the grain is ripe, at once he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.”
It is God’s sovereign will that determines the growth of His kingdom. Man can work as he will; carrying the Gospel message, but no amount of contrived effort changes anything about the growth of God’s kingdom. This does not mean that we are to stop carrying the message for the Bible clearly demonstrates that God wants us to be a part of His work. It is the best job on earth; sales without a quota.
