“Grace to you and peace from God”; this is the greeting in every one of Paul’s epistles. Notice that Paul first speaks of “Grace” and then “Peace”. To receive peace from God we must first make peace with God.
Romans5.1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
We do this by faith in His son Jesus Christ. Having surrendered we receive salvation by grace and mercy. Grace is undeserved merit and loving kindness. Mercy is relief from what we deserve.
Once we have been the recipient of saving grace we have the peace of God.
Phil4.7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Paul understands that the grace and peace of God continues throughout our life. Paul also understands that this grace and peace are wonderful possessions and he always opens his letters with grace and peace. Paul probably used this greeting every time he met a Christian.
