Several days ago I wrote of Stephen Hawking’s new book and especially on his statement that he has discovered that no God was needed for our universe to come into existence. Something out of nothing is just plain silly and no scientist has an answer to this problem, not even Mr. Hawking. Mr. Hawking has a right to be an atheist. Intelligence is no guarantee of common sense, nor is it a guarantee of spiritual understanding.
Consider these words from 1Cor1.25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 26 For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong.
Or this verse from Rom1.19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. 21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools,
The New York Times has now weighed in with a book review. The New York Times could not be called a conservative paper nor do you see much written about God. Yet even the New York Times is finding Stephen Hawking’s new book quite thin on facts…certainly not the kind of facts in which one can declare there is no God.
“Mr. Hawking’s new book, “The Grand Design,” published on Tuesday, has already made headlines and been a trending topic on Twitter, thanks to a different sort of Godmongering. This time Mr. Hawking has, we’re told, declared God pretty much dead. The real news about “The Grand Design” is how disappointingly tinny and inelegant it is.”
“This book is provocative pop science, an exploration of the latest thinking about the origins of our universe. But the air inside this literary biosphere is not especially pleasant to breathe.”
I did not need to be a scientist to understand that Mr. Hawking did not have a scientific leg to stand on. Our Bible is not a science book nor is it a history book, but when it does speak of either science or history it has proven to be accurate and this verse is accurate; In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
