God and Stephen Hawking

In a recent ABC news story it was reported that Stephen Hawking has claimed that no divine force was needed to explain why the Universe was formed. In his latest book, Hawking said: “Because there is a law such as gravity, the Universe can and will create itself from nothing. Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the Universe exists, why we exist.”

Mr. Hawking makes this statement after spending a life time searching for the answer to the theory of everything and not finding it. Not finding the answer, it now comes down to just declaring the answer. He does so by making a statement on gravity that neither he nor any other person can make, because science has not made one iota of progress on the understanding of gravity. I have not read the book but there will not be a bit of evidence for this statement. Nevertheless this statement will now be one that is quoted over and over as fact to undermine the Bible because of his standing in the academic world.

What is exactly Stephen Hawking’s standing in science based upon? Mr. Hawking’s standing comes from his work on black holes. Almost no one outside of the top academic circles understands that his body of work stands in opposition to all known physics. The one law of physics that is basic to the whole universe and agreed on by every scientist is the first law of thermodynamics. No energy is lost.

For black holes to be as Mr. Hawking describes them light and information (energy) are lost. Mr. Hawking understands this principal and has spent his entire life trying to reconcile this fundamental problem.

Mr. Hawking recently made an advance announcement that he had resolved this problem and would present a paper at an up and coming conference. The academic world held its breath. Whish was the answer…nothing. In fact, after such an illustrious career, it was an embarrassment.

Since he could not resolve the fundamental problem of lost energy, he just declared that nothing went into black holes after all. Everything just scrambled and stayed on the event horizon (edge) of a black hole. Pure speculation and pure nonsense…yet he is still considered the most brilliant scientist since Isaac Newton. Isaac Newton Believed in God and wrote more on the Bible then he did on science. Sir Isaac Newton understood the limits of science.

Mr. Hawking is a smart man and I am sure he is a good man, but Mr. Hawking has no idea about black holes or about God. I cannot help him with black holes but I can help him with the answer to God and the creation of the universe…Genesis1.1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
