From the Beginning of the Year
Notice in these verses that God retells the Israelites all that He had done to bring them into the promise land. God then tells them to be obedient, and for their obedience they are given promises…they may be strong and live long.
God than reminds them that they are in a new economy. In Egypt, they planted a garden and it was watered by irrigation. But the promise land is watered by rain. Irrigation was from their efforts; now they had to rely on rain for their survival and rain is of God.
This was a land that God cares for and today Christians are a people that God cares for… from the beginning of the year to the end of the year
Dt 11:7 For your eyes have seen all the great work of the Lord that he did.
Dt 11:8 “You shall therefore keep the whole commandment that I command you today, that you may be strong, and go in and take possession of the land that you are going over to possess, Dt 11:9 and that you may live long in the land that the Lord swore to your fathers to give to them and to their offspring, a land flowing with milk and honey. Dt 11:10 For the land that you are entering to take possession of it is not like the land of Egypt, from which you have come, where you sowed your seed and irrigated it, like a garden of vegetables. Dt 11:11 But the land that you are going over to possess is a land of hills and valleys, which drinks water by the rain from heaven, Dt 11:12 a land that the Lord your God cares for. The eyes of the Lord your God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year to the end of the year.
