Contrary to All of History

If the material universe is all there is, and if human beings are simply the products of evolution, then on what basis can anyone judge good or bad? By judging, human beings are presupposing the existence of a moral standard outside of a material universe….something beyond the mind of man.

But where did this moral standard come from? There is in every culture a standard by which individuals make a judgment about good and bad. The standards are all the same everywhere; murder, rape and torture are bad, and lying makes for poor relations among peoples. It is admitted that not all cultures and individuals keep the standard, yet the standard is recognized.

The fact that unbelievers do judge means that thay understand there is a standard for judging. But, man has never been able to make the standard or keep the standard…unbelievers and believers alike. The difference is that the believer recognizes God and accepts God’s grace and mercy. The unbeliever ignores God and believes that man in his own mind is making things better through knowledge and goodwill…contrary to all of history.
