Prov29.1 He who is often reproved, yet stiffens his neck, will suddenly be broken beyond healing.
This is an important verse in Proverbs for it outlines a principal of God’s economy that many New Testament believers in the “age of grace” often overlook. The hardening of a heart can lead to “sudden brokenness beyond healing”. This is the meaning of the words in Romans that “God gave them up”;
Romans1.26a For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions…
After man hardens his heart toward God, God will agree with the hardening and leave that heart hardened. The Bible tells us to seek God in a day that He can be found, which means that there will come a day that certain people will never find Him.
Isa55.6 Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near…
Every man is given enough revelation to know God, for those that seek God, more will be given, but those that harden their hearts, God will agree with that hardening and deafness and punishment will follow. God must uphold His Holiness and it is wrath that operates to do so. Many time believers are troubled about the talk of God’s wrath, but without God’s wrath there is no holiness…God will not violate His Holiness.
