#337 Seven Appearances of the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament

I am Fred Myers the founder of For the Fathers Ministry, and this is Faith by the Numbers.

Count your way to wisdom in number three hundred thirty-seven of this series, Seven Appearances of the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament.

When the Bible speaks of the Holy Spirit rushing upon someone, it has a similar use as to prosper and to succeed. Having the Holy Spirit rush upon the saved at salvation would have the meaning of having the power to prosper and succeed against sin, prosper in a life of blessings, and protection in this life for the next life. Christians are told that the Holy Spirit is the guarantee that Christ will keep each believer guiltless until the day of redemption.

Seven Appearances of the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament:

  1. The Holy Spirit rushed upon Saul when he was annointed king with the promise he would become another man.
  2. Saul met prophets and prophesied with them demonstrating his anointing of the Holy Spirit.
  3. The Holy Spirit rushed upon Saul to accomplish a military victory.
  4. The Holy Spirit rushed upon David at his anointing.
  5. David demonstrated that the Holy Spirit was with him when he asked that the Holy Spirit not be taken away because of his sin as it was taken from Saul.
  6. The Holy Spirit was with God at creation.
  7. God uses the Holy Spirit to warn and teach in the Old Testament as He has done in the New Testament.

The Holy Spirit has been with God from the beginning performing the tasks of warning, teaching, protecting, filling, and prospering the righteous. The Holy Spirit is of the ancient of days sent out to perform God’s will and the Spirit is still working on behalf of those that love God. In the New Testament age, the Holy Spirit is only sent to those that are in Jesus Christ and those that are in Christ are sealed to the day of redemption.

It is my prayer that many will count their way to wisdom through this series and find the peace that surpasses all understanding.

1 Sa 10:6 Then the Spirit of the Lord will rush upon you, and you will prophesy with them and be turned into another man.

1 Sa 10:10 When they came to Gibeah, behold, a group of prophets met him, and the Spirit of God rushed upon him, and he prophesied among them.

1 Sa 11:6 And the Spirit of God rushed upon Saul when he heard these words, and his anger was greatly kindled.

1 Sa 16:13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon David from that day forward. And Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.

Ps 51:11 Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me.

Ge 1:2 The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

Ne 9:30 Many years you bore with them and warned them by your Spirit through your prophets. Yet they would not give ear. Therefore you gave them into the hand of the peoples of the lands.

Pr 1:23 If you turn at my reproof, behold, I will pour out my spirit to you; I will make my words known to you.
