This verse in 2Cor11.4 has a very important teaching that on the surface is not easily seen. You must start with the words “another” and “different”. Let’s first read the two verses and then we will look at these two words.

2 Co 11:4 For if someone comes and proclaims another Jesus than the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or if you accept a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it readily enough.

Allos and Heteros have a difference in meaning:

Allos denotes “another of the same sort”;

heteros expresses a qualitative difference and denotes “another of a different sort.”[1]

A literal rendering of 2 Corinthians 11:4 would read as follows:

For if he that comes preaches another Jesus of the same kind whom we did not preach, or if you receive another spirit of a different kind, which you have not received or another gospel of a different kind, which you did not accept, you do well to avoid him.[2]

This verse teaches that it is Satan’s plan to first replace the work of Christ with a teaching that denies the death, burial, and resurrection. To accomplish this deception Satan will teach the deep things of Satan which is a different gospel, one of self-sufficiency, and those that follow Satan will receive the spirit of Satan.

Re 2:24 But to the rest of you in Thyatira, who do not hold this teaching, who have not learned what some call the deep things of Satan, to you I say, I do not lay on you any other burden.

They will be taught in Churches that are actually a synagogue of Satan.

Re 2:9 “ ‘I know your tribulation and your poverty (but you are rich) and the slander of those who say that they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan.
