The power of God’s Word is such that if you own a little; you want to own more. I know many are not going to like this next statement, but it is not my quote. My eighteen year old son states “youth groups are like perpetual sixth grade”. The Apostle Paul understood Christian immaturity as well as anyone.
Paul said only the mature Christian can even receive wisdom…remember wisdom is your protection from the “plausible arguments” against faith.
1 Co 2:6 Yet among the mature we do impart wisdom, although it is not a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are doomed to pass away.
Ec 7:12 For the protection of wisdom is like the protection of money, and the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom preserves the life of him who has it.
Col 2:4 I say this in order that no one may delude you with plausible arguments.
Partial knowledge is not enough. Partial knowledge only rises to the level of familiarity. Maturity is the full measure of the knowledge of Christ, and anything less than maturity is a Christian without the full assurance of Christ. Let’s look at the assurance of a friendship between two people. Everyone has or has had a friend. When I ask how two people became friends; the answer is always “over time we came to know each other and now we like each other’s company’, or “we hit it off immediately”. Knowing God as a trusted friend is no different.
The Bible is a love letter written to you, and this is how God talks to you and your children. Prayer is how you talk to God. Friendship requires a level of knowledge about someone, and friendship also requires a level of maturity that maintains the unity of friendship… knowing God requires no less. You must take the time to know God. Talk to God, listen to God, and meet the requirements of a mature friendship such as knowledge, loyalty, unity, and servant hood. You and your children are already doing this in your present friendships. You already know how to make a friend and God is waiting.
Eph 4:13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ,
